Tim and I walked to the Brooklyn Museum for the El Anatsui exhibit currently showing until August 4th. Anatsui has long been a favorite artist of mine but until now I have not seen his work up close. Nothing prepared me for the colour and emotion the pieces conjured. The bulk of the show consists of his metal "chain mail" sculptures: metal bottle tops and caps hammered or bent then attached together by hand using metal rings. With a team of 30 each piece takes about 3 months to complete.
