NOT NYC

Le [Pomp]idou

I fell in lust once with a pink haired pomp raver type pot dealer with a famous-authur-dad and cool friends.  He was my real first french kiss and nothing else. Powdered skin, lip mole.

Anyhow...Centre Pompidou brings it every time. I'm proud to say that every Paris visit for me includes the grand 'ol Pomp, creaky escalators and all. #tb60cycle

Marfa, Texas

Tim and I plus http://suntekchung.com/photography.html, Laura Seymour and the MDJ clan were in Marfa last week to visit Jenny Moore in her new post as executive director of Chinati as well as artist Larry Bamburg and brood.

The usual was done: burrito lady for breakfast, visit to Dan Flavin barracks at Chinati, a swim in Balmorhea, dinner at Cochineal and a bonfire at Fairfaxs'.

The unusual happened: a secret The xx show at Chinati and an after party held in the family manse of the Villareals.

I love Marfa.

FACE!

Last weekend my sister Unieka and I drove down to Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland to attend the Virgin not-so FreeFest featuring Vampire Weekend, MGMT, Icona Pop and others.

It poured the whole time but that did not distract us from fun times. Tequila cocktails and crazy faces kept us smiling through the night. After reviewing some of my iPhone pics later, I noticed some of those crazy faces were that guy.

Bar Mut (shhhh)

Ever so often you are made to feel like one of the 'in' crowd. A burly bouncer slides you past the velvet rope. Your seat reserved at some ritzy number of a restaurant. You're on the inside looking out.

While dining at the a-ma-zing PICNIC in El Born in Barcelona Tim and I were let in on such a sweet secret by one of the owners, Tara.

There is in fact a secret bar above trendy tapas spot BAR MUT in the L'Eixample neighborhood.  She called up the manager and reserved a table under my name.

Some like it hot

When the temperature rises so does the phoenix. I was lucky enough to catch gay pride weekend in Barcelona where the ashes were certainly left afoot. The better late than never news of the demise of DOMA and Prop 8 back home made a day trip to the Spanish (and very gay!) town of Sitges all the better.

Barrrrrthhhhelona

A nearly perfect vacation day began with a very late rise a la 12 noon followed by two hours of intense lounging in the loft we rented in El Born.

Next up a walk through the winding streets in search of the tiniest tastiest iced coffee ever. Yum. An easy subway ride to tourist thick Sagrada Familia and then up to Parc Guell for Gaudi gorgeousness!

Back to El Born for boquerones and Rioja (thanks @ChopTedAllen) at Tantarantana. Back on the subway to Jardin Pedralbes for an outdoor concert in palatial gardens featuring Antony and the Johnsons and our friend Steve Bernstein and his Millennial Territory Orchestra. Finally, dinner at Tapas 24

Charleston Chalk

Although there were many brightly colored things to photograph during my stay in Charleston for fashion week, I chose to shoot muted chalky palettes as seen downtown. Beauty in the old, aging facades and store windows brought a sense of calm to the whirlwind week.

RIP Private Practice

I just got back from a long weekend in Los Angeles where Tim and I attended two great parties. The first was the 10th anniversary of Colin Hay and Cecilia Noel at their lovely home in Topenga Canyon. Killer fun. Plus, I met a friendly soul mate named Gail Boswell.

The second party was the 2012 wrap for Private Practice on ABC. After 6 seasons the show is ending. My husband Tim Bright and sometimes music partner Chad Fischer wrote the theme and score for the show.  Thanks to Shonda Rhimes and Betsey Beers for six plentiful years.

White Drama

While in Paris last week for a shopping trip (work I swear!) I visited Les Docks exhibition space for a fashion cleansing COMME des GARCONS all white show aptly titled WHITE DRAMA. O Rei, how you make me swoon with your exaggerated proportions, cotton candy lumps and regal sea brains. Drama indeed.

Remember those game shows that had money filled capsules and contestants would get in with a fan blowing to catch all the money they could? Well, this shit is MONEY.
